Dr. Julia Chang 

Dentist

Dr. Julia is known for her gentle touch and soft chair-side manner. She has been in practice for over 20 years and learned to give the best and most comfortable anesthesia for all her patients.  Dr. Julia graduated from University of Detroit Mercy, MI and had travelled to many places for her continuing education, training, and family.  After moving 7 times considering herself a nomad, Dr. Julia finally found her home in the Evergreen State, WA, and quickly fell in love with the majestic beauty of Pacific Northwest in 2005. Coming from a family background of architects and artists, she had little knowledge of healthcare. But what intrigued her was the fear she had whenever she went to see a "doctor".  As a child, she recalls characteristics of the face of the doctor who put her at ease.  Learning from my past, it has molded her to be the doctor she is now. To treat patients with respect, compassion, and mostly with a gentle touch.  Dr. Julia has taken numerous continuing education courses every year in various aspects of Dentistry.  She is a member of Washington Academy of General Dentistry and is actively involved in community service. The most memorable outreach was an opportunity of participating in dental mission to Nairobi, Kenya that was able to treat 200+ underserved patients in two days.  Dr. Julia strives to advance her dental skills in restoring your smile in the most relaxed, comfortable way.  She would love to meet you and help you achieve your goals with your oral health and smile!

Rachel

Patient Coordinator

Rachel brings 25 years in the dental field to Colby Family Smiles. Starting shortly after high school in the late 90's as a Certified Dental Assistant, Rachel worked towards her EFDA license obtained in 2010 while working in public health. Rachel has also worked in pediatric dentistry and has now found her strong suit with patient interactions outside of the oral cavity. Direct, ethical, and gentle communication is something she strives to ensure with each patient. One of the things she prides herself on at work is her ability to relate to phobic or distressed patients and help them feel comfortable and at ease. Rachel is passionate about people and life! Should you engage in a conversation with her, you’ll hear all about her 3 successful children, her husband, her Chigi Maisy and Chipin Bamma, her Alaska Native heritage, and her deep love of serving the marginalized in the community. She’s always excited to meet you!

Emily

Registered Dental Assistant

Emily adds 6 years of dental assisting experience to our team. She completed her credentials at Pima Medical Institute and is currently continuing her education towards becoming a Dental Hygienist. She strives to provide a judgment free space for patients and understands that the dental office is nobody’s favorite place to be. She loves the Colby Family Smiles comfortable atmosphere and being part of a small team built of strong women that she gets to learn from every day. In her free time, she enjoys painting, weekend trips to the Olympic Peninsula, and being outside with her husband and their two dogs- Maggie and Kygo!
